Mobile notary
A notary who travels to the signing, not the other way round
Getting everyone into an office at the same time is usually the hardest part of a signing. L & J removes that problem by bringing the appointment to a location that works for the people who have to sign.

Where signings happen
You choose the place; it just has to suit the signing
A signing needs somewhere the signer can concentrate, be identified properly and sign without pressure. Beyond that, the location is up to you.
- At home
- The most common request, and often the only practical option when someone is elderly, unwell or caring for somebody who cannot be left.
- At the office
- Signings fitted around a working day, without everyone having to leave the building and come back.
- Care and rehabilitation facilities
- Arranged with the facility so the appointment happens at a time that suits the resident rather than the calendar.
- Hospitals, where permitted
- Subject to the hospital's own rules and the signer being able to take part properly. Check with the facility first.
- A neutral meeting place
- Somewhere quiet and appropriate when neither party's home or office is the right setting for the signing.
How an appointment works
Four things that make a signing go smoothly
Book the appointment
Give the location, a date and time that works for everyone signing, how many signers there are and what the document is called.Get everyone in one place
Every person signing needs to be present at the appointment with their own valid photo ID. A signing cannot be completed for someone who is not there.Leave the document unsigned
Signatures are made in front of the notary. A document that has already been signed usually cannot be notarised as it stands. The signing takes place
Identity is checked for each signer, signatures are witnessed, and the notarial wording on the document is completed.
What to have ready
- Valid, unexpired photo identification for every person signing
- The complete document, including any pages you were not sure you needed
- Every signer present at the same time and place
- Any instructions from the firm or company that sent you the paperwork
Not sure whether your ID or your document is in order? Ask before the appointment rather than finding out on the day.
Availability
Jobs are scheduled around court deadlines, signing appointments and the people involved, so availability is confirmed for each job. Call to check a specific day or time.

What a notary can and cannot do
This is worth reading before you book. It saves a wasted appointment, and it is the question people are most often surprised by.

Can do
- Confirm the identity of each person signing
- Witness signatures made in front of the notary
- Complete the notarial wording on the document
- Travel to a location that suits the people signing
Cannot do
- Tell you which document you need
- Explain what a document means or what signing it will do
- Draft, complete or correct the document for you
- Notarise for a signer who is not present, or who cannot take part knowingly
Questions
Mobile notary, answered
Coverage for notary appointments follows the same area as everything else — see the service area.
What does mobile notary mean?
It means the notary travels to you instead of you travelling to an office. You pick the location — home, work, a care facility, somewhere neutral — and the appointment happens there.
What do I need to bring?
Valid, unexpired photo identification for every person signing, and the complete document. Leave the document unsigned: signatures need to be made in front of the notary.
Can you notarise for my relative if I bring their ID?
No. Every signer has to be present in person at the appointment, with their own identification, and has to be able to take part knowingly and willingly. This is not a formality that can be worked around.
Can you tell me which document I need?
No. A notary witnesses signatures and confirms identity. Choosing the document, explaining what it does or advising on the consequences of signing it is not a notary's role — that belongs to an attorney or to the organisation that sent you the paperwork.
How much does a mobile notary appointment cost?
No fee schedule is published on this site. Cost depends on the location, the appointment and what is involved, so call or send the details and you will get a figure for your actual appointment.
Can several people sign in different places?
Each signing happens where the signer is, so separate locations mean separate appointments. Explain the situation when you get in touch and the arrangement can be worked out before anything is booked.
Book a notary around your schedule
Give the location, a workable time and the number of signers. L & J will confirm the appointment and tell you what to have ready.
